Wondering how I came to be a functional medicine coach specializing in autoimmune issues? Trying to figure out whether we might be a good fit to work together? In either case, it might be a good idea for me to share a bit about my background and mindset.
My career started in the corporate world, and specifically the fashion sector. The travel and fast pace were exciting, but in my heart I always knew my real calling was to help others. So, in 2003 I became a licensed massage therapist. I focused on oncology patients and post-operative recovery, allowing me to impact my clients’ lives in a direct and positive way. During this time I also studied Reiki and other alternative healing arts.
Although I enjoyed that work, I still had the nagging feeling I could do more. The final piece of the puzzle arrived in 2018 after I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder that leads to chronic inflammation. Suddenly, recurring symptoms like weight gain, pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, and a feeling of having no energy made sense. It took years of self-study and experimentation to find the diet and habits I needed to become my best self again.
As I learned more about autoimmune issues I didn’t just find relief from my symptoms – I also discovered the next step in my career. I vowed to become the kind of guide I myself had needed in the past. Eventually I enrolled in a program through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, which was founded in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine. They allowed me to dive deeper into the science and psychology of change so I could share my lessons with others.
Today, I help my clients connect with their values, vision, and purpose through a set of proven motivational and behavioral change strategies. I help them find new ways of living that get them past common barriers and roadblocks so they can embrace healthier habits. I have the kind of perspective you can only get from overcoming an autoimmune disorder and coming out the other side stronger.
Ultimately, though, this work isn’t really about me: it’s about you and the happier, healthier lifestyle you want so badly. If you want to know more, I encourage you to read more about autoimmune issues, learn about functional health, and see what a health coach can do for you.
